These are the questions our Indianapolis office fields most from Marion County households and businesses planning a relocation with Back To Back Moving. Browse our full range of moving services for details on what each job covers. If your question is not here, send it through the free quote form or contact our teama real person from our roster, not a call center, will answer it. No outside carrier ever touches your job.

What does a local Indianapolis move cost?
You can book hourly or on a flat written rate, and we tell you which one fits before you commit. A 2-mover crew is $115/hr and a 3-mover crew is $155/hr, both with a 2-hour minimum, truck, pads, and dollies included. Most customers pick the flat rate: studio or 1BR runs $475-$725, 2BR $950-$1,550, 3BR $1,750-$2,800, and 4BR $3,000-$4,400.
How early should I book in Indianapolis?
Two to three weeks is comfortable for most relocation work. Month-end, the first weekend of any month, and the IUPUI, Butler, and UIndy turnover in May and August fill up fastest. If your date is tight, send it through the quote form anyway - Audrey holds a few crews open for short-notice jobs.
How do you handle Midwest weather?
April through June Cole watches the radar for tornado cells before he dispatches a job, and January through February every truck carries chains, salt, and shovels for ice events. We start early when severe weather is forecast and protect heat-sensitive pieces from cold and condensation. Climate-controlled storage runs $145-$370/mo by unit size.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Back To Back Moving is an Indiana household-goods carrier holding Indiana URC authority and US DOT and MC numbers for interstate work, with $1M in cargo coverage on every job. Ask Audrey and we will show the paperwork before move day - no broker workaround, no "matched carrier" disclaimer.
What is included in the price?
Every local relocation includes the truck, fuel, furniture pads, dollies, shrink wrap, and basic disassembly and reassembly of beds and standard furniture. There is no travel-time padding or fuel surcharge added at the end - the flat number we write down is the number you pay at unload.
Do you move IUPUI, Butler, and UIndy folks?
Yes. May and August are our busiest weeks - apartment turnover near IUPUI, off-campus rentals around Butler in Broad Ripple, dorm-to-house transitions, and faculty relocations into Carmel, Fishers, and Greenwood. Tell us your lease dates on the quote form and we will build the schedule around them.
Can you handle historic Lockerbie Square and Old Northside homes?
Yes. Tight Victorian staircases, third-floor walk-ups, narrow doorframes, and finished basements to load out of are normal Indianapolis work for our crew. Trevor has spent years on these houses - call out anything oversized on the quote form so we send the right gear and headcount.
Can you handle a long-distance move out of Indianapolis?
Yes. Long-distance relocation runs on a binding written quote tied to your inventory and the two ZIP codes, not a number that creeps up later. Whether you are headed to Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Columbus, St. Louis, or Detroit, the same Back To Back crew loads and delivers, and the $1M cargo coverage travels with your shipment.
Do you move pianos and other specialty items?
Yes - pianos have their own line: roughly $250-$450 for an upright and $450-$800 for a baby grand, handled with proper boards and straps. We also move gun safes, appliances, fitness equipment, and oversized art. Flag any specialty piece on the quote form so Dante and the right crew show up.
Are you a moving company?
Yes - Back To Back Moving is a licensed, insured Indianapolis moving company running our own trucks and W-2 crews. We are not a broker, moving company, or lead aggregator, and your job is never handed to an outside carrier. The uniformed movers at your door are our employees, the truck has our name on it, and the price is the price we wrote down.

Why the Circle City Books Back To Back Moving

From Carmel two-story Colonials and Fishers split-levels to Salesforce Tower high-rise condos and Lockerbie Square Victorians — a crew that knows Marion, Hamilton, and Johnson County streets block by block.

Severe-Weather Loadouts

From an April tornado warning to a January ice storm off Lake Michigan, our crew rolls up to your Indianapolis doorstep with floor runners, shrink wrap, and pad-wrapped dollies, so weather grit stays off the hardwood. Tight Lockerbie Square cobblestone curbs and steep Meridian-Kessler driveways across Indianapolis and central Indiana get a smaller box truck and a slower approach on grade.

Top-Rated IN Crews

Every hand at your door is on the Back To Back Moving payroll — full-time, background-checked, W-2, and trained the way Tyler runs the Keystone Avenue yard. Never day labor pulled off a board. That is how we hold a 5-star Google rating across Marion County.

One Flat Written Rate

Your figure is set on paper before the first carton clears your Indianapolis doorway, and it holds whether I-465 stacks at the north split or the job runs late. Long hauls out I-65 or I-70 come back as a binding written total — nothing added at the curb.

No Broker Handoffs

Every truck at a Circle City curb wears the Back To Back Moving name, and each mover on it draws a W-2 paycheck. Your load is never handed to an outside carrier — one Indianapolis company packs it, drives it, and carries it in.

Fully Insured, $1M Cargo

We operate as a registered Indiana household-goods carrier — Indiana URC household-goods authority on file for intrastate work, with US DOT and MC authority on file across state lines into Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan. A $1 million cargo policy backs every Indy job, no exceptions.

On Time Across the Metro

A two-hour arrival window and a call the moment the truck leaves our Keystone Avenue yard. We route around the I-65 / I-70 north-split tangle downtown and the I-465 backup near Fishers, so your closing date holds.

Packing & Supplies Included

Pack the whole house, just the finished basement, or only the rooms keeping you up at night. Cartons, pads, dollies, and shrink film ride on the truck before the crew leaves the yard, so wrapping starts the moment we step into your Indianapolis doorway.

Specialty Pieces Handled

Upright pianos, large gun safes, antique sideboards, and oversized armoires get the right ramp and straps — plus a crew chief who has eased them down Lockerbie Square cobblestones, out of Herron-Morton third-floor Victorian walk-ups, and up finished-basement stairs across Carmel and Fishers.

Your Easy Indianapolis Move

A flat written rate, then loading, then unloading at your new Indy address — three steps, start to finish.

1

Tell Us About Your Move

Share the basics — rooms, finished basement, tight Lockerbie Square cobblestone curb access, any upright piano or gun safe — and Tyler’s office prices it as one clear flat figure with no fine print.

2

We Wrap & Protect

The crew rolls up on time, pads and shrink-wraps every piece — finished basements, Salesforce Tower high-rise units, narrow Herron-Morton third-floor walk-ups — and shoulders all the heavy lifting.

3

Move to Your New Home

We drive across Marion County or out I-65 toward Louisville and I-74 toward Cincinnati, unload box by box into the right rooms, and reassemble the furniture. Welcome home!
