We are a general Indianapolis moving company, not a piano-only outfit — but the heavy, awkward, can’t-replace-it pieces still get specialty handling across our metro service area. Pianos, gun safes, and antiques get their own crew, gear, and line on your written rate.
The heavy and high-value pieces we handle
Trevor Walsh and the crew at Back To Back Moving bring skids, four-wheel piano boards, straps, and stair-climbing technique for the items most movers will not quote straight. Butler faculty uprights, Old Northside basement safes, and downtown church grands all make the list.
- Upright pianos — strapped to a board, padded, and walked down stairs by hand
- Baby grands and grands — legs and pedals removed, body skidded and crated as needed
- Gun safes — 400 to 1,000+ lbs, moved with proper dollies and floor protection
- Pool and billiard tables — disassembled, slate handled in pieces, reassembled on site
- Antiques, armoires, marble tops, and large mirrors — custom-wrapped and crated
- Treadmills, large aquariums (drained), and oversized art
Priced as its own line
Specialty pieces do not vanish into an hourly blur. Uprights run about $250-$450 and baby grands $450-$800, listed separately on your flat rate so you see exactly what the hard piece costs.
How a specialty job runs
You can add a specialty piece to a full house relocation or book it on its own, and many DIY customers pair it with our loading and unloading help for the rest of the truck.
- We ask the right questions. Send the stairs, doorway widths, and the piece’s weight with a free written quote so we set crew size and gear before the day.
- Protect the path. Floor runners and door-jamb pads go down first — important on the original oak of a Lockerbie Square or Herron-Morton home.
- Move with the right tools. Boards, skids, straps, and four-person lifts where weight demands it.
- Set and check. Reassembled and placed where you want it, with $1M cargo coverage the whole way.

What It Costs Around Indy
A two-mover team runs $115/hr with a two-hour minimum; a three-mover team is $155/hr, and bigger Indy jobs are pinned down as one flat written figure before our truck rolls off Keystone Avenue.
Two of our own W-2 movers, a padded box truck, four-wheelers, shrink wrap and quilted blankets — the entire Indianapolis job folded into a single Back To Back Moving rate, with no handoff to a third-party van line at any point in the day.
